After her husband’s death during a hunt, Cersei and Joffrey seize the throne, ignoring Robert’s will which gave the regency to Eddard Stark. Lord Stark is arrested and later executed on Joffrey’s order, an act which starts the War of the Five Kings. As King’s Landing faces threat from Stannis Baratheon, Cersei engages in a struggle for power with her brother, Tyrion Lannister, who was acting as Hand of the King in their father’s stead.
